Surgical blood use in Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital

Abstract

To establish the guideline for the effective utilization of blood in various surgeries. The author analyzed the data of 412 patients. who transfused before or after surgical procedures from October 1995 to March 1996 in Wallace Memorial Baptist
Hospital. The author propose the guideline for the adequate amount of the transfused blood in various surgeries, which was calculated from the transfused rate x the average unit of each surgery. Proper application of this guideline would provide
for
effective utilization of our limited shortage of blood situation and allow for reduction of laboratory work loads and unnecessary transfusion.
